Today is Ash Wednesday – the day when Lent “officially” begins, and a day when we are reminded of our finitude: “Remembering that we are but dust, and to dust we shall return.” Kind of an interesting thing to think about, as I sit here getting in my morning play-time with Caleb…watching him begin to smile and interact more with his playmat…thinking about death and dust while watching all of the energy of his new life.
But it is a reminder of how short our lives are….how little time we have in the grand scheme of things. And it’s also a reminder of our reliance on God and how important a relationship with the living God is in our lives.
I hope you’ll join us tonight for a contemplative and interactive Ash Wednesday Service in the Chapel at 7pm. I’ll be leading some Taize music on guitar, we’ll join in prayer, have the imposition of ashes and have some other creative ways to engage with this significant day in the church calendar. See you tonight.
